Unused Copy

Below are several unused prompts of copy I wrote for a redacted real estate company. In copy, a brand expresses their personality in addition to their service, and in this project, that was my goal.

Prompt 1:

“Imagine you’re writing copy for a new, high-end residential property [redacted] manages in Corktown. In 50 words or less, write a blurb for the website about the Corktown neighborhood that makes this area sound appealing to potential renters.”

[Redacted] is excited to continue developing in one of Detroit’s most vibrant and unique neighborhoods: Corktown. Enjoy state of the art residential spaces within the history of Detroit’s oldest neighborhood, surrounded by a wide selection of Detroit’s hippest bars and restaurants. Corktown isn’t just Detroit: it’s uniquely, historically, iconically Detroit.

Prompt 2:

“[Redacted] models itself as a for-more-than-profit company. We work in the community and on the community by cultivating entrepreneurs, activating public spaces, developing workforces and investing in education, among other things. Write a 15-second radio ad that showcases [redacted]’s “for-more-than-profit” model. The ad will appear on a local NPR station.”

What is Detroit? It’s a city of industry, of hard work and innovation. It’s home to historic trailblazers, icons of forward thinking. We at Bedrock want to invest in reinforcing that legacy, in developing Detroit’s next chapter. Bedrock: Investing in Detroit, investing in you.

Prompt 3:

(As an introduction between me and the redacted company, they asked me to write to the following prompt to get a sense of my style. While it was more an exercise than copywriting assignment, I enjoyed the project and have included it here):

“I’ve never owned a smartphone. In 100 words or less, tell me why I should buy one.”

Life moves fast. Think about your average day, and all the moments you experience, all the questions you have, all the people you think about and connect with. A smartphone can help you keep up, with access to all the information in the world within the reach of your pocket, or it can help you slow down, capture a moment with someone you love in a place you never want to forget. As you shape your experience in this world, your smartphone will help you be more you, and however fast life moves around you, you’ll never fall behind.
